When women succeed, America succeeds -- and state legislators are taking action to make it happen, including Minnesota State Senator Sandy Pappas (DFL-St. Paul) and Representative Carly Melin (DFL-Hibbing). Earlier today, they joined other legislators on the state Capitol steps to show their support for the Women’s Economic Security Act, an omnibus bill that seeks to close the gender pay gap, expand employment opportunities for women, and strengthen workplace protections and flexibility for pregnant mothers.
“This is a very comprehensive package,” said Sen. Pappas. “It’s really important – and we’re very proud to have the Senate leadership behind us, to have the governor behind us, and to have the people and the women and men of the State of Minnesota behind us.”
As WESA already passed the Minnesota Senate last week, legislators and advocates are working to secure passage in the House. Several advocates spoke at the event as well, offering their personal stories on why women in Minnesota deserve equal pay and workplace protections.
