Upcoming Events: Taking Action To Ensure Equal Pay For Equal Work

When women succeed, America succeeds. That's why the exciting news today was such a victory: on Tuesday, President Obama will issue executive actions that will take significant steps toward equal pay for equal work, regardless of gender.

The announcement comes at a time when state legislators across the country have long been working to tackle gender discrimination in pay, modernize workplace standards, and provide the tools women and families need to get ahead, like more affordable child care.

Pennsylvania is a leading example. In that state, lawmakers have introduced a package of measures that go beyond playing defense and proactively advance priorities important to women's health and economic security -- including equal pay legislation.

On Monday at noon, the day before Equal Pay Day, State Rep. Dan Frankel, who is the Founder & Co-Chair of the Pennsylvania Women’s Health Caucus and also the Democratic Caucus Chair for Pennsylvania, State Rep. Erin Molchany, State Rep. Brian Sims, and State Sen. Rob Teplitz will hold a news conference at the State Capitol alongside advocates to call for action on the bill. Equal pay will be among the issues raised during the following upcoming events as well. This week, the White House, the Department of Labor (DOL), and the Center for American Progress (CAP) are hosting regional forums on women’s issues in Atlanta and Denver:

On Thursday, April 10, Georgia State Sen. Nan Orrock (@SenNanOrrock), who is also a member of PSN's Board of Directors, is scheduled to speak at the Atlanta event.

On Friday, April 11, Colorado Sen. Jesse Ulibarri (@jessie4COand State Rep. Joseph Salazar(@HouseSalazarwill participate in the Denver forum.

The above events are taking place during the National Week of Action for Real Prosperity Across America, a time when state legislators in 20 states are spearheading events and activities that lift up a shared vision for the country: an economy that works for everyone and a fair shot for all.
