This new PSN report, which updates a fall 2007 edition of the Stateside Dispatch, discusses the growth of legislative measures to protect consumers from unaffordable health care costs and uses the experience of Massachusetts' individual mandate as a case-study to demonstrate the need for strong language ensuring affordability.

Periodically, we hear elected leaders promoting what seems like a free lunch: hand-over control of government services or government assets to private industry and services will improve at a lower cost. Like most promises of a free lunch, privatization of government services also known as"contracting out" or "public-private partnerships" has rarely delivered on its promises, with most studies showing little gain and often substantial losses for the public.

The Progressive States Network today issued a report that exposes many of the conservative movement's methods of operation in state government and how progressives can deliver results. The organization also rolled out its website that will serve as the "virtual" war room in the fight for the states.
