The federal government began accepting applications for the high
risk pools it will run in 29 states and the District of Columbia last
Thursday, PBS
Newshour reports. The other 21 states chose to run their own pools
and may be on different schedules.
Stimulus funding,
like $2.1 billion for Head Start and Early Head Start Programs, $1.5
billion for health center improvements, and $8.4 billion for public
transit, should be implemented with a clear intent of reducing racial
and ethnic health disparities and achieving equitable resource
distribution across communities.
Prior to last Monday's White House health care forum in Des Moines, Iowa, one of fiveregional forums being held across the country, the Iowa Senate passed two significant
health care reform measures - one symbolic and one substantive.
In New York State, 31% of uninsured residents are young adults between
the ages 19 and 29. To help this population and reduce the state's
uninsured rolls, Governor Paterson wants to require private employers
to offer health insurance to workers' dependents who are between the ages 19 and 29.
