NJ: Error on 'Race to the Top' application costs N.J. $400M in federal funds

After making a high-profile bid for hundreds of millions of dollars in federal education reform money, New Jersey fell three points short of receiving "Race to the Top" funding, in part because of an error by the Christie administration in the state’s application, records obtained by The Star-Ledger show.

Gov. Rendell on Monday proposed increasing dozens of motor vehicle fees and imposing a tax on oil profits to raise $1 billion to fund road and bridge repair and public transit.

Right-wing Budget Hypocrisy: Taking Recovery Funds, Denouncing Deficits and Promoting Costly Tax Cuts

Right-wing officials have consistently expressed opposition to the federal recovery effort, even as they take credit for the American Recovery and Reinvestment ACT's (ARRA) impcat on economic growth. The combination with promoting budget-busting tax cuts while bemoaning the deficit just adds to the hypocrisy of rhetoric on the right.

VA: Tax collections help build $404 million surplus in Va.

Gov. Robert F. McDonnell will announce Thursday that Virginia ended the fiscal year with a surplus of about $404 million -- almost twice the previous estimate, state officials said. 

NY: Senecas file suit to block state tax

The Seneca Indian Nation sued the Paterson administration in U.S. District Court in Buffalo on Tuesday to block enforcement of a plan to gain tax collections on sales of cigarettes at Native American stores.
